The Kueh Lapis is actually a rich, very premium European cake that originates from Holland and is only consumed by the Royals in ancient times. Indonesia, was part of the Dutch Colony. People of Indonesia first learned how to make this multi-layer cake from the Dutchman and later spread the formula to around the Sout-East Asian reagion. The formula is subsequenbtly localised by the locals adding spices distinctive of the region to appeal to the local taste palate.

For this version, Master Chef has added in Pandan Leaf juice, the “Vanilla of Asia” to give it that extra creamy fragrant. This packing is a new convenient one which has the cake pre-cut into slices to make it very easy for consumption.
